April 13 & April 18, 2010

On April 13th I went in for egg retrieval, part of our IVF process. 30 eggs were retreived and 25 fertilized normally. Out of the 25: 11 were excellent, 9 were good, 4 were average, and 1 was of poor quality.

Five days later on April 18th we went back to the hospital for embryo transfer. Two of the best embryo's were selected to be transfered. The procedure was very simple and fast. Below is the picture the Embryologist gave us of the the two we transfered. According to her they are "picture perfect"! Of course they could not be seen with the naked eye as they were microscopic. This picture was taken from the microscope in the lab.

I think this is the coolest thing! These embryos only have about 12o cells each. The outer ring will develop into the placenta and the inner part develops into the baby.

After transfer, I was on bed rest for about three days to allow them the best possible chance to implant.
